Gino's East of Chicago is a neighborhood pizza spot in Sherman Oaks that brings a slice of Chicago's deep dish and thin crust traditions to the West Coast. Known primarily for its hearty deep dish options, like the Pope-Roni and Italian Beef Deep Dish pizzas, this place caters to anyone craving a filling, flavor-forward pie that nods to the heart of Chicago’s pizza scene.

The atmosphere inside tends toward casual and welcoming, making it a good choice for a laid-back lunch or a family dinner. The seating is straightforward and functional rather than trendy, which suits its role as a gathering place for locals who appreciate robust portions and straightforward service. It’s not the kind of place you linger in for hours, but rather one to settle into comfortably with friends or family for a satisfying meal.

Beyond the deep dish pies, Gino's East offers tavern-style thin crust pizzas, with toppings like spicy pepperoni and a hint of Calabrian chili oil that add a bit of a kick without overwhelming the palate. Their Italian Beef Sandwich dipped with sweet peppers and famous handrolled mozzarella or spinach mozzarella sticks shine as classic Chicago-inspired starters that pair well with fuller-bodied pizzas.

Patrons have noted that parking can be tricky since it’s mostly street parking in the busy Riverside Drive corridor. This might be a consideration for weekend dinners or peak traffic times. Calling ahead or placing orders for pickup has become a popular workaround for locals, making it easy to get your pies fresh and ready without a long wait.

Families and groups often come here to celebrate casual occasions—birthdays included—and the staff adds thoughtful touches that make the experience feel more personalized, like a cookie to go. For first-timers, the combination of the deep dish’s rich tomato sauce, cheesy layers, and a thick crust can easily fill up even big appetites after just a couple of slices, so sharing is often the way to go.

If you’re looking for a spot in Sherman Oaks that brings Chicago-style pizza with a straightforward, no-frills vibe, Gino’s East offers a reliable option that captures the essence of the Midwest’s famous pies without fuss. It’s best for those who want a generous meal in a homely setting, especially during lunch or early dinner when parking and traffic are more manageable.

I recently visited a Chicago deep-dish pizza spot, and overall, it was a great experience! The seasoning of the pizza was just right—not overly salty—and the spice level was mild, which I appreciated. I managed to finish one slice easily, but by the time I got through the second, I was absolutely stuffed. For an appetizer, we ordered calamari, but the pieces were quite small, which was a bit disappointing. However, the pizza more than made up for it with its rich flavor. It was freezing outside, but the restaurant was warm and cozy thanks to the heaters. One thing to note is that deep-dish pizza takes about 45 minutes to prepare, so we passed the time playing a quick board game, which made the wait more enjoyable. All in all, a delicious and memorable meal!

Gino's East came highly recommended by 2 of my wife's coworkers. Since we were out in Century City, decided to finally head over to check it out. A 45 minute drive from Century City (hella traffic up Beverly Glen). Believe there is only street parking which was challenging as we had to circle around 2x before we found a spot. We did call in our order and all 4 pies were ready once I arrived. Deep supreme - I absolutely loved the sausage patty that they use in this deep dish. Honestly, wasn't a huge fan of the dough they use as it is different than other deep dish pizzas I've had. Now I can't say whether the other deep dish pizzas I've had were truly authentic Chicago style but I think I do prefer the deep dish pizzas at Masa of Echo Park. I just think the crust is a bit more flavorful. Deep diavola - Of the 2 deep dish pizzas we ordered tonight, this was my favorite. The spicy pepperoni paired perfectly with the red sauce, basil and truffle oil. I think the truffle oil added more flavor to the pizza crust so this was the better of the 2 for me. I think I'll see if I can customize this by adding sausage patty and some fresh garlic next time. Deep custom (artichokes, mushroom, garlic, spinach and olives) - Wife enjoyed the pizza but like me wasn't a fan of the crust. They did warn her about the number of toppings as it would make the pizza too "wet." I think we should've stuck with 2-3 toppings max on her pizza. She did mention there didn't seem to be much cheese so that was a negative. The guys running the front were friendly and efficient. Will head back if ever in the area.

Took our son here for his birthday lunch. Service was very friendly. My son described the meaty deep dish as "heaven". They gave him a chocolate chip cookie to go for his birthday. We'll be back again.

UPDATE: Still the best pizza I have ever had. We took my daughter and her boyfriend here who are visiting from NYC and everyone loved the deep dish Chicago style pizza and sticks! See y'all soon... So, at 53 and having had pizza all over the world, Gino's East of Chicago has hands down the best pizza I have ever had! Admittedly, this was my first time having authentic deep dish pizza, but what a great... We tried both the tavern style thin crust first, it was awesome; we then moved on to the deep dish and my son said it was very flavorful and yes, he has had a lot of pizza in NYC. I agree both were amazing but the deep dish was an experience all on it's own. The mozzarella sticks were the best I have ever had too. It was almost a three hour round trip car ride from Palos Verdes but worth it and more. We are definitely taking my daughter here when she returns from law school next month. Great job to all staff, thank you for a memorable dining experience!!!

Tasted EXACTLY like the one in Chicago does. This is the traditional deep dish pizza you’re looking for, glad I’m able to eat it here in LA. Delicious butter dough and crust make the thing so darn good. Usually go for the Italian sausage on my pizza but other toppings are great too. One of my favorite spots for thick pizza like this, also valley adjacent which is nice as well.

Just had lunch at Gino’s. First time there. Our server Thais was amazing. She was so friendly and attentive. I would go back on the basis of her service alone. The pizza we got was delicious and filling. Overall a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to go back.
